Last month, my husband and I and two good friends spent four days on Rio Dulce with Pedro Solis of Tours Adventure Atitlan. We have been coming to Guatemala for many years and have always wanted to travel in the Atlantic Lowlands but worried that it would be too difficult to do alone and didn’t want to do it in a big group.
We met Pablo in 2014 when he gave us a one day birdwatching tour at Lake Atitlan. We were charmed then with his knowledge and his personality, and contacted him this year to discuss Rio Dulce. With a minimum of emails back and forth he understood what we were looking for and together we designed the four day trip.
The trip was everything we wanted and more. We swam in a hot spring waterfall (Finca Paraiso), toured Livingston with a pillar of the garafuna community there, stayed at an adventurous jungle lodge (Hotelito Perdido) and traveled up and down Rio Dulce and Rio Lampara experiencing birds, other wildlife and the simple everyday lives of the indigenous people. Through it all, Pedro was informative, personable and organized. He has many friends and contacts and treats everyone he meets with respect. I would recommend him and his company highly for any Guatemalan travel that you might want.
